It’s always fun to eat out. It spares me from the trouble of cooking and I can choose from a wide variety of dishes. But what if I need to lose weight? Do I really have to stop eating out? Fortunately, I don’t have to avoid eating (It would be a real pity if I had to).
Based on an article on choosemyplate.com, I can still eat out even if I’m trying to lose weight. Just as long as I follow the tips below, I can still go out and enjoy a meal in my favorite restaurant.
Do a Calorie Check
According to 52SL.net, a site that reviews Medifast, in some restaurant menus, the number of calories in each meal is posted. This gives the customer a good idea as to how many calories there are in a dish. It would be very easy to do a calorie check this way but unfortunately, not all restaurants do this.
To make a quick calorie check on a meal order, it’s best to go over the description of the dishes on the menu. Based on the description, I’ll have a good idea as to how many calories there are in a dish. A calorie check should also be done on the appetizers, drinks, and desserts. This is really the best way to allocate my daily calorie intake.
I really don’t have to stop eating out as long as I order wisely. I’m better of ordering dishes that are composed of vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, fruits, and lean protein foods. Fortunately nowadays, there are a lot of restaurants that serve healthy meals. It’s a lot easier for me to eat out and still lose weight nowadays.
Go For Water Instead
I want to consume my calories wisely considering I have a very limited daily intake of it in order to lose weight. So instead of ordering a beverage that could lessen my daily calorie allowance, I would have to go for water instead. This way, I can allot more calories to my food dish. I would rather eat my calories than drink them.
Think About Dessert
The good thing about doing a calorie check is that I know exactly if I’m complying with my required (and limited) calorie intake. So if I know that I’ve already eaten up my daily calorie intake, I will have to say no to dessert. This maybe hard to do especially when everybody else is partaking of dessert. In case I’m stuck in such a tempting situation, I should just slowly sip a steaming cup of brewed coffee. This way, no one will really recognize that I’m not eating any dessert.
The dessert part of a meal is the most tempting part of eating out. I will really have to think hard about eating some dessert.
Less Is Better
I used to think that more was better and cheaper. I used to upsize all my drinks and meals. While I had always thought that it was saving me a couple of bucks, I ended up overweight. It’s better and a lot healthier that I go for smaller meal portions.
Go A La Carte
One of the reasons why it’s good to always do a calorie check is that I won’t be tempted to go for the buffet table. Being aware of my limited calorie intake, I should just order a la carte and not feel guilty about it.
Go for Steamed, Grilled, or Broiled
Aside from taking in consideration the dish description, I should also find out how the dish is cooked. Was it deep fried, steamed, or boiled? From there, I should be smart enough to choose which dish is good for me.
So it would be totally unreasonable to avoid eating out just because I’m trying to lose weight. There are ways to work around it. I just really need to order and to allocate my calorie intake wisely.
